Test Yourself - Regular Sets

On the 1st Monday and on the 3rd Monday of each month we will provide four cases for you to analyse. The cases will be different on each of these mondays. The cases: mainly plain radiographs from the Emergency Department (ED), and / or chest radiographs from the ED or from elsewhere in the acute general hospital. Normal radiographs will be included.

The answers to the 1st Monday's cases will be posted on the following 3rd Monday . . .  and so on.

Please note :

a) trauma cases: frequently we will provide just one view for you to assess whereas in clinical practice two or more views will have been obtained. In many instances the aim is to test your observational and interpretive skills on a particular radiographic projection;

b) the brief answers will often refer to relevant explanatory pages in one of our two Survival Guide books;

c) the pages refered to will not be specific to the case shown; rather, they will provide further explanation / recommended reading.

How difficult will the cases be?

  • Radiology Registrars / Residents should score 90% - 100% correct answers.
  • Those reading CXRs on a regular basis should score 90% - 100% correct answers.
  • Career grade Emergency Department (ED) doctors should score 90% - 100% correct answers.
  • Doctors without experience in dealing with trauma cases and / or lacking experience in chest medicine . . . but now commencing work in the ED as part of a 4 or 6 month attachment should aim to score in excess of 80% correct answers - if properly prepared for the attachment.
