The Radiographers’ Advanced Trauma Study Day
about the course
This new (in 2012) one day course provides the opportunity for reporting radiographers, and others who are practicing the Red Dot system of Radiographer Alert, to test themselves when analysing images from 150 cases presenting to the Emergency Department. The answer sessions are designed so as (a) to demonstrate / explain the diagnosis in each case, and (b) to supply supplementary teaching in order to reinforce the basic principles that underpin accurate assessment of radiographs following injuries to the axial and appendicular skeleton.
There are six sets of cases; each set contains 25 images. Many / most of the diagnoses are challenging in terms of observational or interpretive difficulty. Each registrant will analyse the images independently at his / her own workstation. Approximately 35 minutes are allowed for a brief report on the 25 digital images. A rigid time constraint is not applied when analysing a set. Normal images will be included.
NB. This course is solely concerned with skeletal trauma. We have created a separate all day CXR course : The Chest X-Ray Course : for Radiographers. Those seeking chest film teaching / tutorials can register for the CXR course here. Information in relation to our Red Dot Trauma course incorporating powerpoint lectures, cases analysis in pairs, and reinforcing tutorials can be found here.

(1) Cancellations received more than 21 days prior to a course will receive a 75%
refund of the fee paid. Cancellations received less than 21 days prior to a course will receive a
25% refund of the fee paid. Non attendance will not entitle the registrant to a refund. (2) Transfer to a later or future course. If a registrant makes a cancellation and requests a simple transfer to a future course at the fee already paid... this will not normally be arranged. In general, a cancellation cannot be transferred (at the fee paid) to a future course because places cannot be filled at short notice. However, the timing of the cancellation is important. Our transfer policy is as follows: a) a cancellation - with a request for a transfer to a future course - which is received more than 28 days prior to the course will be transferred; b) any registrant making a cancellation for whatever reason less than 28 days prior to a course will not be transferred to a future course (at the fee already paid) and, instead, the registrant will receive the % refund as per (1) above. (3) Returned cheques will incur an administration charge of £15. |
the registration fee includes
- Coffee, tea & refreshments on arrival, and all further refreshments during the coffee and teatime intervals
- Excellent lunch provided by Joseph Catering
- The option of obtaining a Certificate relating to an individual's correct score on the Set 6 cases - but only if a registrant specifically requests his or her score to be recorded in this manner. An individual's score that is thus recorded on a Certificate will be confidential to that individual registrant and to the teachers only. It will not be shared with, nor made known to, others.
