ANSWER	ANSWER VIEW Normal appearances. Note the smooth dorsal cortex of the distal radius on the lateral radiograph; an important normal finding.

RADIOGRAPHS	RADIOGRAPHS
ANSWER	ANSWER VIEW Fracture of the distal radius. Note the dorsal angulation of the posterior cortex of the radial metaphysis. Contrast this appearance with the same smooth area of the normal radius shown in Case (1).

CASE 3

HISTORY	HISTORY Recent cough and fever and now chest pain. Previously well.

RADIOGRAPHS	RADIOGRAPHS
ANSWER	ANSWER VIEW Right lower lobe pneumonia. Note the " Silhouette sign " . . . the lung consolidation obliterates the most lateral part of the right dome of the diaphragm. *See : The Chest X-Ray : A Survival Guide : Pages 45-50*

CASE 4

HISTORY	HISTORY Acute chest pain and short of breath.

RADIOGRAPHS	RADIOGRAPHS
ANSWER	ANSWER VIEW Pneumothorax. Left lung. At the left apex: the visceral pleura is visible and there are no lung vessels lateral to it. Contrast these findings with those at the apex of the (normal) right lung.
